Despite some minor snafus getting in the gates of the festival, Sonic Bloom did a wonderful job of providing all types of different activities to take part in to keep the patrons enlivened and engaged. From sunrise DJ sets, to mindbending acrobatic troupes and from early morning Yoga to interactive art installations there was something for everyone at this “transformational festival” that took place on a beautiful ranch just outside Georgetown.
Back at the end of June, Shadow’s Ranch up in Georgetown was overtaken by 3,000 electronic music lovers, and yes, we do mean lovers. With a common theme of love and compassion running through the weekend, this year’s Sonic Bloom Festival featured some of the biggest names in the genre. Everyone responsible for making this festival happen are building a family based on the simplest of ideas that we all to often forget: have compassion for one another. It was truly a special experience.
On Saturday night The Ogden was a surprisingly warm and loving place where all night long Hippies danced alongside raver kids and 30 somethings out for a night on the town. Smiles were flashed from one face to another and people flowed through the crowd with ease. I’ve seen Shpongle a few times now, but this time, I got Shpongled. I’m hooked. I’m not sure what it was about this show that made it different from the others I’ve been to, but I finally understand why people rave about Simon Poshford and Shpongle.
Phutureprimitive, Eskmo, and VibesquaD brought a wide variety of different kinds of electronic music to Summit Music Hall last Saturday. They event, produced by Euphonic Concepts, was much more than just a simple concert. With vendors strewn about the venue and visual artists lining the dance floor, there was always something to keep your mind occupied between the sets of music. Overall, the night was one to be remembered, as well as one to kick yourself for missing out on.
